FORGET, Sylvain

Always taking into consideration the invisible side of things and of life, Sylvain Forget marries colors, light and shadows with careful precision and in a skillful balance of shapes, so as to imbue his figurative art with a realistic quality and a poetic dimension that will captivate the eye.

Born in 1962 in Saint-Jérôme, Quebec, this accomplished self-taught artist, who very early becomes proficient in the techniques of the Dutch and Flemish masters of the 16th and 17th centuries, has given rein to his creativity for more than 35 years. In addition to his exhibitions in Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto, New Orleans and at the Canadian Embassy in Japan, he has participated, notably, in an international painting exhibition at the Tokyo Central Art Museum. He was, moreover, awarded the Canada Excellence Award in 1985. His paintings can be found in private collections around the world.

While anachronism and paradox, in an attempt perhaps to defy his own consciousness of the impermanence of things, might appear to have been freely celebrated throughout the subtle evolution of his art, what Sylvain Forget is seeking above all to manifest and even to magnify, in each of his paintings, is the sense of beauty, of harmony and of the sacred that the physical universe and the human experience, in his eyes, have always carried.
