LEBON, maurice (1916-1998)
Maurice Lebon was born in Quebec City. After studying at the Petit Séminaire de Québec and then at the Séminaire de Sherbrooke, he stayed in Europe as a paratrooper. He participated voluntarily in the Second World War where he became the commando and paratrooper of the US Army’s First Special Service Force. He returned to Quebec following a serious injury during a fight in Italy.
He lates became director of sports at the city of Baie-Comeau.
With a natural talent for creation, Lebon decides to deepen his research in painting and drawing under the tutelage of the renowned painter Francesco Iacurto. He will work with him for several years.
He is an excellent landscape painter. His love of nature is deeply rooted in his soul. He knows how to evoke with extraordinary force the poetry and beauty of the countryside and forests of Quebec. Maurice Lebon has not only the sense of composition, he also has a style of his own.
Distinctions: In 1992, he was named Life Member of the Quebec Garrison Club. From 1986, he became director of the Institute of Figurative Arts.
Many of his paintings are owned by the Citadelle of Quebec, the Royal 22nd Regiment. Other collectors include: Pope John Paul II, Archbishop of Canterbury and Queen Elizabeth II. In May 1973, when the NATO fleet came to Quebec, the authorities gave each of the eight captains a canvas signed Le Bon.
