AYOTTE, Léo (1909-1976)
AYOTTE, léo (1909-1976)
Born in Ste-Flore, he lives in Montreal and dies in Ste-Hyacinthe – Canada. Self-taught artist, entered the School of Fine Arts as a model, his artistic journey is outside the official circuits. The forties and sixties represent his most affirmed period.
Among his most successful works, there are empty landscapes of figures and houses painted with a quick and precise gesture, executed without prior drawing. They are raw, spontaneous works that are not devoid of a certain expressionist tendency. These same qualities are found in his portraits and still lifes.
